Peru Holidays

Cradle of the Inca Empire with a rich and ancient past and a vibrant present. It is difficult to go anywhere in Peru without stumbling on some reminder of Peru’s past. Machu Picchu - The lost City of the Inca’s, a spectacular and imposing citadel. Museums filled with amazing ceramics and textiles from the Chavin, Paracas, Nazca Moche and Wari civilisations that pre date the Inca's. The legacy of colonial Peru is seen in its churches and viceregal mansions built by the Spaniards, the city of Lima was their seat of viceroyalty until 1821 when Peru declared its independence. Characterised by its diversity of landscapes, Peru has the highest navigable lake in the world, arid deserts, the deepest canyons, the Andean Mountains and rainforest jungles with spectacular flora and fauna.

Lima
The capital of Peru, Lima is a big city with plenty to see and do.  Home to lots of museums including the Gold Museum and Larco Herrera Museum, Lima has one or two nice neighbourhoods with good restaurants and bars.

Cuzco
The historical town of Cuzco is the main base for all visits to Machu Picchu including day trips and treks.  The city itself has so much to offer and other tours from Cuzco include tours to the Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo Market and nearby ruins, as well as adventure activities such as white water rafting or horse riding.

Machu Picchu
One of the new 7 wonders of the world Machu Picchu is on a lot of peoples list of places to see and visit.  The famous 4 day Inca Trek is one way to see it as you arrive in Machu Picchu in time for sunrise on the last day of the trek.  There is also a shorter trek of 2 days and if you do not feel like trekking you can enjoy a day trip to Machu Picchu or perhaps overnight in the nearby town and get up early the next day to see the sunrise over the ruins.  An alternative to the Inca Trek is the Lares Trek which is becoming increasingly popular.
